Octicons is GitHub's official icon library, distributed under an MIT license and used throughout GitHub.com, the GitHub Desktop app, and GitHub's documentation. The set is small and product-focused — 914 icons in 12-pixel, 16-pixel, and 24-pixel viewports — covering Git and code-collaboration concepts (branch, merge, pull request, code review, issue, label, commit) as well as common UI primitives. Each size is hand-drawn rather than scaled, so Octicons stays sharp at small UI sizes typical of menus and navigation. Because GitHub uses these icons in its own product, the library tracks new Git and code-platform concepts faster than other general-purpose sets. Octicons is the natural fit for developer-tooling sites, code review interfaces, CI dashboards, and documentation that needs Git-native iconography.
